🔍 Timely Truth Tuesday: Listening Instead of Shouting

Everyone’s talking. But is anyone listening?

Everyone's Talking.  But, is anyone listening?

Conflict is part of every relationship: personal, professional, even political. But research shows it’s not the fighting that hurts us most; it’s how we fight.

According to relationship experts John and Julie Gottman, healthy couples use conflict to build trust and closeness, while toxic conflict (criticism, defensiveness, contempt, stonewalling) erodes connection. It’s less about volume, and more about tone.

At Civic Goods, we believe curiosity beats cynicism. Imagine if our conversations online, at work, at home shifted from winning to understanding. What if, instead of rushing to argue, we paused to ask: “What else might be true here?”

That shift could be the difference between building bridges or burning them.

This week, try listening a little longer before responding.
